Drawing a curtain over padel acoustics

As padel continues its rapid global expansion, the conversation among club owners is evolving. It’s no longer just about how many courts you can fit into a space, it’s about how the venue actually feels to play in. And, increasingly, one factor is standing out as a true differentiator: acoustics. Padel Acoustics founder, Filip Jenvén, explains more.
Step into almost any indoor padel facility during peak hours and you’ll notice the constant echo of ball impacts, voices bouncing between walls, and a level of noise that may quickly become exhausting.
While energy and atmosphere are part of the sport, uncontrolled sound creates a poor experience over time. Players struggle to communicate, staff deal with fatigue, and the overall environment may feel chaotic rather than premium.
Yet surprisingly, acoustics is still often overlooked in the planning phase. And this is where specialist solutions – designed specifically for padel – have started to reshape the market.
Padel Acoustics, founded by Filip Jenvén, has developed textile-based acoustic systems tailored specifically for padel environments, rather than adapting solutions from other industries.
The concept focuses on installing pleated, fire-retardant curtains along the walls, creating a soft surface that absorbs sound reflections effectively.
But the real difference lies in the engineering behind the system.
The combination of acoustic textile, dynamic rail solutions and custom hook systems ensure the curtains maintain their structure and performance over time, even after years of heavy use and thousands of ball impacts.
“For us, it’s crucial that the result looks just as good after five to 10 years as it does on day one,” said Jenvén. “That’s why everything is developed specifically for this environment, not adapted from something else.”
Q&A with Padel Acoustics’ Filip Jenvén
Q: Why has your acoustic curtain concept become so popular, and what makes it unique?
For us, it’s crucial that the result looks just as good after five to 10 years as it does on day one, even after thousands of ball impacts. Our dynamic rail and hook system, combined with our acoustic textile, is a carefully engineered solution developed specifically for padel environments. It ensures that the curtains keep their shape, structure and performance over time, which is a key difference compared to more generic solutions.
Q: Are your systems easy to install and do you provide your own installation teams?
We carry out around 30% of installations with our own teams. For projects further away, customers usually install the system themselves or work with a local contractor. We always provide detailed PDF instructions and support them remotely via video call if needed. The system is designed to be straightforward and efficient to install.
Q: Do you have lab testing or data to support the acoustic performance of your products?
Yes, our curtains are lab-tested for both fire retardancy and sound absorption. When installed pleated and approximately 20cm from the wall, they achieve an A-class absorption rating, which is essentially the highest level. In terms of performance, this can be compared to high-quality acoustic panels.
Q: What does a typical project look like, from first contact to completed installation?
Most customers contact us after seeing one of our previous projects or finding us online. From there, we ask for photos of the venue, a floor plan including court layout, project timeline (we always prefer to install before the courts), and the exact height to the eaves. Based on this, we create a tailored solution, produce the materials, and either support the client remotely or carry out the installation ourselves.
Q: How much of a difference can a proper acoustic treatment actually make for players and the overall padel experience?
It’s a night-and-day difference. Covering at least two walls – ideally more – dramatically improves the sound environment, reducing echo and creating a much more comfortable space for players and spectators. Visually it also transforms the venue. Using grey or black tones creates a clean, premium ‘Instagram-friendly’ environment that enhances the overall player experience.
Q: Have you had customers benefiting financially after an acoustic curtain installation?
Yes, we’ve heard this many times from clients after completing projects. Improving acoustics in a sports venue can significantly increase customer satisfaction and retention. In many cases, operators report noticeable increases in bookings – up to 20% – or the ability to raise booking fees by approximately 3-10%. Players naturally compare clubs, and they choose the one that feels best. If you want to stand out and continuously develop your business, acoustics and overall atmosphere are key factors.
Q: What advice would you give a club owner planning a new facility when it comes to acoustics?
Focus on the walls rather than the ceiling. Ceiling solutions are often expensive and don’t deliver the same visual impact or player experience. Wall-based solutions, like acoustic curtains, are far more cost-effective and create a stronger overall result. To be honest, in many cases, even painting the walls can end up costing more without delivering any acoustic benefit.
