Pounce Padel grabs the moment
Female founder Georgie Rennie is challenging what she feels is the ‘pink and sidelined’ approach to women’s rackets through Pounce Padel, which aptly includes a leopard print racket within its curated range of three styles.
Edinburgh-based Georgie was frustrated by what she perceived as a lack of female-focused padel products. So she channelled her thoughts into creating a new range of rackets designed specifically to appeal to women – and Pounce Padel was born. The soft launch late last year sold out of the £135 rackets within three weeks and Georgie has now re-stocked, aiming to deliver ‘premium performance and unapologetic style’ to inspire more women to move, play and enjoy padel.
Georgie said: “I was so fed-up seeing blokey, male-focused designs – nothing that appealed to me – so I created a brand myself. I wouldn’t even call myself a ‘sporty’ girl, and the 10-year-old me would never believe I’d end up starting a sports brand. In fact, she’d find it hilarious. But that’s exactly the point. This is the ‘why’ behind the brand: our mission is to empower and inspire women to get into, or back into, sport – and padel is the perfect place to start.
“Women make up 35-40% of all players, with numbers rocketing to almost half a million in the UK. One quick Google search of the gear and you certainly won’t see that representation,” added Georgie.
“Yes, the brand is style-led, but its foundation is uncompromising quality and an unwavering, women-focused lens. The rackets are lighter and have a more comfortable strap. We deserve equipment that performs as well as it looks. Our rackets are designed to give beginner and intermediate players complete confidence in their game: reliable, well-crafted, and visually striking. The medium balance, teardrop shaped rackets – all with a carbon frame and 3K carbon weave surface, are available in Sage Green, Blush Pink and Leopard (our favourite).
