The UK’s biggest inter-club padel tournament is heading into the new year with a major new sponsor, new look competition structure and ever increasing number of participants.
The iPadel Club Leagues were set-up two years ago to allow players to compete in regional leagues with the aim of winning their way through to the prestigious national summer and winter league finals.
The concept has proven a huge success, with player numbers growing each season. The current Winter League has 130 teams taking part and the summer tournament saw around 1,000 padel players battle it out for the top spots in men’s, ladies and mixed categories in a finals event at Rocket Padel in Bristol.
New divisions
Now iPadel founder Ian Colligon has announced that Spanish sportswear brand Joma is the event’s new lead sponsor and that the current winter league is the first to run with the new ‘Club’ and ‘Premier’ divisions format aimed at evening out player levels.
Ian told The Bandeja: “I am delighted to be working with Joma, a company dedicated to excellence and the highest quality products. It is very encouraging for padel in the UK that a company like Joma sees the value of the iPadel Club Leagues. We have no hesitation in recommending them to our participating clubs.
“Its sponsorship comes at an exciting time for the leagues with the introducing of the Club and Premier Divisions, which are aimed at providing the best experience for all teams, giving them the opportunity to play against others of a similar standard, giving everyone better and more enjoyable matches,” added Ian.
Joma joins other well-known brands in the padel world in sponsoring the iPadel Leagues, including Nox, Padel Shack, The Bandeja Magazine and Padel-London.
Chris Storey, Joma Brand Manager, said they were ‘delighted’ to announce the collaboration for the 2024 iPadel season.
“We are looking forward to working with iPadel and its clubs nationally, exploring opportunities to enhance growth in the sport whilst building interest and relationships. We are excited to support the regional/finals weekends, promoting the benefits of the Joma brand. This partnership demonstrates our continued commitment to grow padel in the UK,” added Chris.
Joma and the WPT
Joma was founded more than 55 years ago, establishing a name synonymous with high performance sports shoes. Continued research and development has seen it become a leading brand in the supply of footwear, technical garments and accessories across a range of sports, including padel. It has partnered with the World Padel Tour and sponsored top padel players including Jose Antonio Garcia, Nuira Rodriguez Camacho and Antonio Fernandez Cano, all in the WPT top 25.
