If you missed out on snapping up 2024’s most exclusive racket, the €5,000 Babolat x Lamborghini’s BL001, then read on for the two companies have once again collaborated on another high-tech, limited-edition racket that is a little more affordable.
The BL002 is this year’s model from the two big-name brands, fusing supercar engineering and high-performance padel racket technology. It’s currently being launched around Europe ahead of going on sale on April 28th via Babolat’s website and selected retailers. This week the launch party arrived in London, revealing the new racket during an event at Padium, in Canary Wharf.
Already British buyers are lining up to get their hands on the €600 BL002, of which just 5,000 will be available worldwide. Both manufacturers anticipate that the racket will quickly become a collector’s item much like the hand-made BL001, of which just 50 were produced last year at Lamborghini’s base in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy.
The Babolat x Lamborghini BL002
The 2025 model has been produced at the Babolat Studio in Barcelona and demand is expected to be high from both padel players and collectors.
But the collaboration is more than two companies simply putting their names to a new product.Babolat describes it as a ‘genuine merger’ with technological and industrial expertise shared; the BL002’s 3K carbon (on the racket face) and cutting-edge Koridion foam (in the racket head) are advanced materials found in Lamborghini supercars, delivering power, stability and durability coupled with light weight for players.
The isometric-shaped rackets are available in black or a Lambo-inspired green, weigh in at 360g, feature a rigid monocoque frame and multi-EVA foam core. Each racket is finished with Babolat’s TPS technology which encases the racket head with thermoplastic polyurethane to protect it and increase comfort levels. The hole pattern is designed to maximise weight distribution for shot stability and a soft red plastic triangle in the racket throat helps absorb vibrations. Overall, Babolat says players can expect a ‘unique sensation and sound’ in play.
Babolat CEO Eric Babolat said: “The BL002, the first racquet to come entirely out of the Babolat Padel Studio, is an important milestone for our brand and the culmination of a long-term project.”
Ranieri Niccoli, Chief Manufacturing Officer at Lamborghini, said about the collaboration: “This partnership goes beyond product design; it represents the fusion of two distinct worlds – racket sports and luxury automotive engineering. Our carbon fibre production team was directly involved in the creation process of this new racquet, bringing our expertise in materials and the know-how of Made in Italy to the Spanish headquarters. This will be a racquet of desire for all padel and super sports cars lovers.”
So, how does it play?
The Bandeja was invited to the UK launch of the BL002 at Padium and had the pleasure of playing with the racket, which is power oriented and didn’t disappoint on that front. It’s quick to get to know and felt great to play with; expensive, high-tech rackets are often geared to experienced players and can feel unresponsive in the hands of lesser players but the BL002 delivered across a range of capabilities. Babolat very much wants it to be an accessible racket and while the price tag may rule it out of most players’ budgets its performance does appear to achieve this. Fair to say we were sad to hand it back at the end of the session.
